Conservative Republican Don Ayotte announces candidacy for Sussex County’s 3rd Councilmanic District Seat
Don Ayotte of Georgetown has declared his candidacy for Councilman for Sussex County’s 3rd Councilmanic District, currently held by Joan Deaver, D-Rehoboth Beach.
I decided to run for this council seat because many residents in the 3rd Councilmanic District are rural conservatives who don’t want to be heavily regulated by government. Deaver’s support of requiring a demolition permit for buildings is as example of over regulation, which she endorses. I will vote to preserve property rights and keep taxes stabilized.
While speaking with many of the people that live in this district, I asked what their main concern was and the number one answer was jobs, jobs, jobs. Second on the list was preserving their property rights. People in the district and throughout Sussex County were concerned about the possibility of their property rights being regulated away a little at a time. I will consider the council position a full-time job.
As a councilman, I will listen to the concerns of all of my constituents, from the agricultural communities to the retirees that have re-located to Sussex for the better life by preserving their property rights and keeping taxes stabilized.
I will make it my personal agenda, aside from my work on the council, to work tirelessly to market Sussex County as a business friendly place for industry and manufacturing to expand or relocate their enterprises. Sussex County should be on the short-list of places to re-locate or expand their business or manufacturing enterprises, but we’re not even close to being on that list.
I have been active in the Republican Party and currently serve as Vice Chairman of the 37th District. After attending many council meetings over the last few years, I am well aware of the many issues facing Sussex County.
I believe that our agriculture community must be supported because when all other economy fails, the farmers always come through and are a mainstay of the county’s economic stability.
I’ve earned a BA from the University of Delaware with a major in English and a concentration in Journalism in 2006. I am motivated to take on the task of serving on the county council. Sussex County has been good to me and now it’s time for me to step up to the plate to help my community.
